Your Best Shades: Son de Flor Spring & Summer 2026 edition

Have you ever been in a situation where you see a dress, think it is the prettiest color you have ever seen, but when you put it on, it feels... off? Well, darling, the reason for it might be that the shade doesn’t complement your skin’s undertone.

Did you know that your skin tone can change, but your undertone rarely does? That is why it is very important to figure yours out!

Our new Spring and Summer collection just dropped - with new designs and new colors, this is one of the most exciting and largest collections of the year, which also means that it might be harder to pick your perfect dress. But do not worry, we are here to help!

How to Find Your Undertone

You might be wondering - what is an “undertone”? Well, to put it simply, it is a subtle color beneath your skin. It can be warm, cool, or neutral, which might explain why some colors look great on you, and others seem a little off. Linen is flattering on everyone, but let’s focus on identifying the shades that will help you stand out the most. Here are some simple checks you can do to determine your undertone.

If one test does not seem to reveal the answer, do not worry - we will look at several clues over multiple tests.

Natural Light Test

If you have bought base makeup, this might already be a test you have done before: observe your skin in natural light. Specifically, your neck or inner arm. That is where we can see your undertone the best - the skin in those areas is thinner and can reveal what is hiding underneath.

If your undertone is:

  • Cool - tones are pink, rosy, and bluish.

  • Warm tones are golden, yellow, or peachy.

  • Neutral - tones are hard to determine, not clearly yellow or pink.

The Vein Test

Now, examine the color of your visible veins in natural light. Determine if the most visible veins are blue or green.

If your undertone is:

  • Cool - the veins are purple or blue.

  • Warm - the veins are green.

  • Neutral - you can see both green and blue veins.

If at this point the tests seem to contradict each other, for example, the skin tone seems warm, but the veins seem neutral - that’s completely okay, and quite normal. Not always are we a perfect cool or warm tone. At the end of the tests, we will see which answers you got the most of, and that will be our best clue as to which undertone you are leaning towards.

Jewelry Test

Put on both silver and gold jewelry and observe yourself in the mirror - which one do you prefer? Which one makes your skin appear brighter and more vibrant?

  • Cool undertone - silver.

  • Warm undertone - gold.

  • Neutral undertone - both look good, and it is hard to tell.

Tanning Test

When you spend some time in the sun, the way you tan can also reveal what your undertone might be. For example:

  • If you burn easily and tan in pink and red tones, you have a cool undertone.

  • If you tan in golden shades, you are leaning towards a warm undertone.

  • If you are not sure or if it is not always consistent, you likely have a neutral undertone.

Lip Color Test

For this color test, remove all lip products and examine your lips. What shade is the most dominant?

  • If it seems rose or berry shade, it hints at a cool undertone.

  • If you see some warmth, peachy shades, or coral tones, you might have a warm undertone.

  • If it is balanced and hard to tell, you might have a neutral undertone.

The Color Test

For deeper skin tones, not all tests may have been as effective and given clear results. But that is okay! There are other methods that can help us out. Look back on your past outfits: did you ever notice that some colors suit your skin tone better than others? Do you, in certain colors, look glowing and vibrant, and in others more dull?

Now let’s break it down: what does it all mean?

  • If the colors that suit you best are purples, blues, or blue-based reds, you might have a cool undertone.
  • If oranges, golds, and earthy shades suit you the best, you might have a warm undertone.
  • If most colors seem to suit you fairly well, you might have a neutral undertone.

Now, let's look at the results - which answer did you get the most?

Undertone Characteristics

Hopefully, at this point, you have some idea of the undertone you are leaning toward. Now, what does that mean for you? Let's dive deeper and analyze each undertone - their characteristics, recommended jewelry types (silver or gold), colors that are Complementary, and the ones you should avoid.

Cool Undertones

Your Best Shades: Son de Flor Spring & Summer 2026 edition

Cool undertones usually have a pink, red, rosy, or blue base in the skin. On deeper skin tones, cool undertones may appear more red, wine, or bluish.

This means that your skin tends to look its best when the colors you wear complement and reflect the same coolness in your undertone. Some cool shades might make your skin look its most vibrant and beautiful, while others that are warmer might have the opposite effect, making your skin look dull and tired.

Silver jewelry complements your undertone the best - silver, white gold, and platinum look the best on cooler skin undertones.

Clothing-wise, the best colors for cool undertones are blue or violet-based. They are the most harmonious for cool skin tones, complementing rather than contrasting the skin. On the other hand, very warm and orange-based colors might look slightly off.

You might have already experienced this phenomenon, where the orange-based color looks great, but once you try it on, it does not quite come together as you had hoped. That would simply be a confirmation that the cool undertone is indeed yours.

Warm Undertones

Your Best Shades: Son de Flor Spring & Summer 2026 edition

Warm undertones usually have a yellow, golden, or peachy base in the skin. On deeper skin tones, they may appear more golden, bronze, or rich and warm.

Warm undertones pair best with colors that share their warmth. Choosing warm shades can make your skin look bright, glowing, and healthy. Cooler tones might have the opposite effect, making your skin look more muted and dull.

Gold jewelry is the way to go for your undertone. Rose gold and bronze would also complement your complexion while enhancing the warmth of your skin.

Your best colors are orange, yellow, and earthy-based. The warmth in these shades will feel the most natural against your undertone and enhance it rather than clash with it. In contrast, icy cool-toned shades might seem contrasting against your skin, making it less flattering.

Look inside your closet - is there a garment hanging in there that you rarely reach for? If so, it might be the undertone, not the piece, that’s the issue.

Neutral Undertones

Your Best Shades: Son de Flor Spring & Summer 2026 edition

Neutral undertones mix warm and cool tones for balance. On deeper skin, these undertones might look muted or difficult to define, adding a subtle quality.

Having a neutral undertone can be great because it pairs well with most colors. Because of this, warm and cool tones will suit you well, especially if they are not too extreme. If you have a neutral undertone, your skin looks glowing and versatile across a variety of different shades.

With this undertone, you can wear any jewelry color you want, and chances are it will complement you really well.

Even though both warm and cool tones suit you well, muted colors might complement you the most. It’s all about keeping your look balanced and harmonious - going too icy or too warm might overpower your overall color palette.

If you notice that most colors tend to suit you, it is a great indicator that you might have a neutral undertone.
