The Fabric of Trust: Why Linen Matters at Son de Flor
It always starts with a little thought and usually ends up in a deep rabbit hole. A simple question you ask yourself before you realise that you can’t really imagine the answer: where do my clothes come from?
That question is later followed by others: Was it sustainably made? Were the people working on it paid fairly? Will it last, or will it break apart after the first wash? Is it environmentally friendly? Will it end up in a landfill?
Son de Flor exists because we weren’t happy with the answers we found - and because we care.
That is why, since the beginning, we have been working almost exclusively with our beloved 100% linen.

Why We Choose Mono-Fabric: The Power of 100%
If you look at the labels of your clothes, a big part of them will have a blend of different materials: polyester might be mixed with cotton, elastane added to natural fibers, or they might have synthetic finishes that improve stretch or reduce wrinkles. Combining different materials is cheaper and easier to manufacture, but in the end, the customer's wool sweater might end up being 90% polyester. Probably the biggest problem in this situation is the environmental impact: these blends are harder to recycle and repair, and can release microplastics when washed.
At Son de Flor, we choose a different path.
Our linen garments are made from 100% linen, and our wool garments are made from 100% wool. This matters because:
• Natural fibers remain biodegradable
• Fabrics age beautifully and soften over time
• Garments are easier to repair and maintain
• The material keeps the authentic qualities of the fiber
• Mono-fiber textiles are simpler to recycle at the end of their life
In a world full of blends and shortcuts, working with pure materials may be slower and more demanding, but we believe it is the most responsible — and ultimately the most beautiful — way to create clothing.

Our Linen: Rooted in Lithuania
We are deeply rooted in local production, as around 95% of the linen used in Son de Flor garments is made in Lithuania.
Our main partner, Klasikine Tekstile, is based in Kaunas, Lithuania. They are known for high-quality European linen fabrics. The linen we use is woven from 100% linen yarn in both warp and weft, with a classic weight of around 160 gsm and a fabric width of approximately 150–160 cm.
This fabric weight has become the signature of many Son de Flor garments. It is:
• breathable and comfortable in all seasons
• structured enough to hold beautiful silhouettes
• durable enough to last for many years
We deeply care about the quality of our products, which is why having close relationships with the people who make our clothes is extremely important. Son de Flor garments are cut and sewn mostly by our own team, and a small studio in our town helps us with larger production runs. That is how we can create garments that will accompany you for many years to come. Our linen softens after every wear and wash - something many of our customers lovingly call the “living fabric effect.”
Exploring New Partnerships — With the Same Standards
As we mentioned, almost all of our linen comes from local sources. At the same time, we stay curious to explore what the world has to offer. That led us to research other trusted and certified European suppliers.
For our fresh Spring & Summer 2026 collection, we experimented with a small number of garments and made them with the new type of linen. The colors of this new linen are: Sage, Egret, Deep Forest, and Bijou Blue. It has a smoother finish, which is a great option to have for a certain number of garment styles! This new linen meets all of our standards, so you can be sure the quality of our products won't change.
The new fabric carries the European Flax™ certification, which guarantees traceability of flax fiber grown in Western Europe and ensures responsible processing throughout the supply chain.
It is also certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, meaning the textiles have been tested for harmful substances and are safe for even sensitive skin.
For us, expanding our supplier base does not mean compromising our values - it means finding new innovations and solutions to deliver the best possible results to you.

Different Linen Weaves for Different Garments
You have probably noticed that we sometimes write “herringbone linen” instead of just “linen.” But what does it mean?
At Son de Flor, we mainly work with two types of linen: Classic Linen and Herringbone Linen.
Classic Linen — 160 gsm
Our most widely used fabric is a classic plain-weave linen around 160 gsm.
This weave creates a balanced fabric structure where the warp and weft threads cross evenly, giving linen its characteristic natural texture and breathability.
This fabric is used for most of our garments, including:
• dresses
• skirts
• shirts
• shirts
• everyday silhouettes
Because of its medium weight, it drapes softly while still holding shape. It also develops a gentle softness after washing while retaining the strength linen is known for.

Herringbone Linen — Heavier Structure (320–360 gsm)
For outerwear and structured designs, we use a heavier linen with a herringbone weave, typically around 320–360 gsm.
The herringbone pattern creates a subtle V-shaped texture in the fabric. Beyond its visual elegance, this weave gives the linen:
• greater density
• increased durability
• more sculptural structure
We often use this linen for garments like jackets or more architectural dresses - for example, styles similar to our Rosa Dress - where the fabric supports a more defined silhouette.
The end result is a garment that feels tailored, firm, and sophisticated, thanks to denser herringbone linen.

Our Organic Cotton Petticoats
One of our garments that is not made from linen is our petticoats - breathable, light, and practical. For those who might not be familiar, a petticoat is a light underdress or underskirt worn beneath a dress or skirt, adding volume, comfort, and an extra layer. Or, if it’s our Ruffle Neck Petticoat, you might end up wearing it simply for the ruffles - a subtle detail that changes the whole look.
These pieces are made from organic cotton sourced from our trusted Spanish partner, Tejidos Rebés. The cotton used in our petticoats is GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard), which ensures that the fibers are organically grown and processed under strict environmental and social responsibility standards throughout the supply chain.
Cotton was intentionally chosen for this garment, as it offers a soft, smooth layer that pairs beautifully with linen while remaining natural, breathable, and comfortable against the skin.
At Son de Flor, we love layering our linen, and petticoats are the foundation of it all.

Thoughtful Details: Bio-Based Buttons
Even the smallest components of a garment matter.
The buttons we use are made from bio-based resin, composed of 99% plant-based material and 1% natural pigments. The resin is derived partly from synthesized waste from fruits and vegetables, transforming organic by-products into durable fashion components.
Our button supplier follows responsible production standards, including OEKO-TEX®, SMETA, and Sedex compliance, ensuring both environmental and ethical manufacturing practices.
It may seem like a small detail, but in sustainable design, every component counts.
Clothing That Lives With You
We hope that now, when you look at your Son de Flor dress and ask yourself the question ‘Where do my clothes come from?’, you will have all the answers. You will understand where the clothes came from, where the cloth was cut, and where the flax was grown.
We hope that you can be proud wearing our garments, knowing what we stand for and the care that goes into every piece.
After all, the clothes we wear carry stories far beyond the wardrobe.
With love,
Son de Flor Girls
