My Blue Ocean
The summer is here and we all want to dive and cool ourselves in the waters, would it be a lake, a river, a sea or an ocean. The 8th of June is officially the Day of the Oceans, which is perfect for giving it a little bit more attention to this heavenly force than usual.
Our hearts know, yet science proves, that our blue oceans are full of waste and our ocean friends are suffering because of consuming the waste big industries, economies, and households flush into these waters.
We have all seen plastic bags floating in our local waters, which makes a significant part of the pollution problem. Jenna Jambeck, a University of Georgia environmental engineer, says at current pollution rates, the ocean will contain 1 ton of plastic for every 3 tons of fish by 2025, and more plastics than fish (by weight) by 2050.
Plastic does not disappear magically from the waters without any sign, in fact, plastic disintegrates into microfibers and becomes a part of marine life alimentation, which eventually becomes a part of the human diet. Even more, recent research shows that plastics emit powerful greenhouse gases as they degrade and, over time, give off more and more gas, so the plastics accumulating in our oceans represent a scaringly vast, uncontrollable source of future emissions.
We are proud to say that we have minimized the usage of plastic in our production process to the least minimum. There is no plastic in our packaging, not even the duck tape we use when shipping our parcels. On the other hand, all our dresses and accessories are made from natural linen and never responsible for any plastic microfibers getting into our rivers and oceans when washed at home.
It's time to take responsibility for our Earth because it's our one and only home! Every little effort counts.
